SMIDS is situated on the western part of Kanyakumari town. It is located on the right side of the road going towards Kovalam village. People of Kanyakumari fondly call it ‘Stella Maris’ since it means ‘Star of the Ocean’. Stella Maris is a non-government, development and educational activity based Trust. It was founded in 1995 and managed by Sisters belonging to the Congregation of the Daughters of Mary. Under the able leadership of Sr. Monica and Sr. Stella along with dedicated Sisters and Staff, Stella Maris has grown far and wide within the short span of 13 years. It has established its project units in eleven places located in three districts of Tamil Nadu. |
